The History of Crossens Community Association
In 1999 Colin Patterson a lay preacher
at Crossens Methodist Church,
Rufforf Rd, contacted Councillor John Dodd for a meeting to discuss bringing back the Community spirit to Crossens village. At that meeting Colin and John decided to call a meeting of residents and traders of Crossens. A meeting was held in which traders and residents attended and out of that meeting Crossens Community Association was Born.
Monthly meetings of CCA were help. Steve Jowett became the secretary, Brian Anderson from the Mr Posh , Rufford Rd became the treasurer, Jean Johnson from the hair salon in Rufford Rd and Barbara Ogden from Ogdens news agents got involved. The first major event was Christmas in Crossens in 1999, which was help at the Methodist Church Hall. The event brought together all the different groups in the village, the Methodist Church, St Johns Church, St Johns C of E School, Crossens Nursery, the shop keepers and residents.
Colin moved on to pastures new. but the CCA carried on from strength to strength holding Christmas in Crossens and other events. In 2002 CCA held an event to celebrate the Queens diamond jubilee. In 2003 Councillor David Tattersall became Chairperson. In 2003/04 Sefton got a grant from the lottery commission to put new play equipment on Crossens recreation ground and refurbish the old library on Crossens recreation ground. In 2004 Jean Johnson and Elaine Price became joint Chairpersons and John Dodd became treasurer.
In September 2005 the old library was refurbished and became CROSSENS COMMUNITY CENTRE .
In 2005 CCA started to hold Crossens fund days in September and Christmas and was held in the Community Centre
CCA started to hold bingo nights once a month in the centre. In March 2006 Elaine Price became Chairperson.
In September 2006 the youth of Crossens stated to meet in the centre once a week. The Community Centre is now being used by all ages of Crossens Community. The centre is now being hired out most nights of the week.
We work to promote community activity in the local area. Our main activities have been organising Christmas events and a Village Festival all to develop community pride and spirit in Crossens.
